Adams - Briscoe Seed Company
is Going “Back — to the Future.”
Most people driving from the Courthouse to the Post Office in Jackson have noticed many changes to our old retail store building. No, Adams - Briscoe Seed Company is not closing. We have simply moved our offices and store to the rear of our property to make room for a new Badcock & More Home Furnishings store. We hope that our customers will excuse the construction mess, but, we are excited about what the future has in store as we and Badcock remodel the buildings on Second Street.
We chose to keep and move into the old “warehouse” building because it is the one with the longest history and has a character that suits the agricultural heritage that is a large part of Adams - Bricsoe Seed Company’s history. The company was purchased by Rufus Adams and Everette Briscoe over 60 years ago, and they built the building in 1954 to house their seeds and seed cleaning operation. Many of the timbers in the building are much older and were recycled from a local textile mill that was being remodeled. Much has changed in Butts County and with agriculture since that time, however. Adams - Briscoe Seed Company has had to adapt to these changes, and this move is just another part of that process. We did not, however, want to abandon all of our history, so we have chosen to try to spend our time and efforts into putting the old building back into use. We had discontinued operating most of our seed processing equipment several years ago and that part of the building was being under utilized. The tall brick building is a prominent part of downtown Jackson, so we will be trying to “freshen up” the old building without destroying its character while using it to fill our need for sales space.
We are eagerly looking forward to serving the citizens of Jackson, Butts County, and the surrounding communities for many years to come. We appreciate the patronage of our faithful customers and hope that we can make many new friends as Butts County grows. We also hope that the investment that we are and will be making will be a positive thing for downtown Jackson. We invite everyone to come in and visit our “Country Feed Store.” We also ask for your patience as we try to get organized from our move.
